Back lift and arm lift together: one operation, connected scars
A bra-line back lift and arm lift are routinely combined: the arm-lift scar runs into the armpit, where the bra-line scar's side extension can meet it, and both fit within safe operating time for most patients. Recovery adds arm-specific restrictions for 3–4 weeks.
Why the combination works
Weight loss deflates the arms and the back together; the armpit is where the two excesses meet. Treating both lets the surgeon plan the scars as a system — inner arm to axilla, axilla toward the bra line — and remove the excess that neither operation alone reaches at the junction.
The operation
Positioning is planned so the back is treated first, then the arms with the patient supine. Total time is usually within the safe limit for a single session; adding a breast lift or extensive liposuction can push it over, in which case the plan is staged. The upper body lift guide covers staging.
Recovery with both
Arms below shoulder height and no lifting for 3–4 weeks (rather than 2–3); arm compression sleeves in addition to the vest; sleeping on the back with arms supported on pillows. A companion is strongly encouraged — dressing, washing and luggage all need help in week one.
Who should stage
Patients with higher clot risk, those needing a breast procedure too, or anyone whose combined plan exceeds the operating-time ceiling. Staging 3–6 months apart is a safety choice, not a downgrade.
