Back lift or tummy tuck first? sequencing after weight loss
After massive weight loss the lower body lift or tummy tuck usually comes first — it's the larger operation and the one that redefines the waist — with the bra-line back lift, arms and breasts following 3–6 months later as an upper body lift. Patients with only an upper-back problem simply have the back lift.
Why the lower body goes first
The tummy tuck or lower body lift is the bigger operation, needs the longer recovery, and changes the silhouette the most — including the lower back and flanks that share tissue with the upper back. Doing it first lets the upper body lift be planned on the finished waist. It's also the operation most patients feel the most urgency about.
Why they are not combined
Positioning (a bra-line lift is done face down, a tummy tuck face up), total operating time, blood loss and clot risk all argue against combining a full abdominal operation with a back lift in one session. Dr. Erdal stages them; clinics that combine them are trading safety for a shorter trip.
What is combined
Bra-line back lift + arm lift, or + breast lift, as an upper body lift; tummy tuck + lower back/flank work as an extended tummy tuck or lower body lift. Each session stays within the safe limit.
The typical two-trip plan
Trip one: lower body lift or tummy tuck, 10–12 nights. Trip two, 3–6 months later: bra-line back lift with arms and/or breasts, 8–10 nights. Quoted transparently as two operations; the back lift types page maps which rolls belong to which trip.
