Lower back rolls: liposuction, extended tummy tuck or lower body lift?

Quick answer

Beltline rolls are a lower-back problem, not a bra-line one. Firm, elastic flanks are liposuction cases; loose beltline skin is removed through the flank extension of a tummy tuck or as part of a lower body lift. The pinch test and your weight history decide.

Sorting the roll

Pinch the roll at the beltline. Firm, springs back, skin tight over it: fat — liposuction. Lifts as a fold and hangs: skin — excision through a beltline incision. Both: liposuction plus excision, in one plan. The pinch test guide applies to the lower back exactly as to the upper.

The three operations

Liposuction of flanks and lower back — no scar, days of recovery, the right answer for elastic skin. Extended tummy tuck — the hip-to-hip scar continues round the flanks to remove flank and lower-back excess; buttocks untouched. Lower body lift — a circumferential scar removes the whole beltline excess and lifts the buttocks and outer thighs; the massive-weight-loss operation. The lower back lift page explains who needs which.

With upper back rolls too

Staged — lower body first, then the bra-line lift with arms and breasts 3–6 months later, as the sequencing article explains.
